Miriam Makeba: Reflections

Mama Africa – the legendary Miriam Makeba – enjoyed a six-decade career that spanned three continents and a breathtaking array of musical styles. While she may be best known for timeless South African works like “Pata Pata,” her musical output saw her transforming everything from the works of Duke Ellington to the Beatles, while also engaging with the music of other areas of Africa like Guinea and Nigeria.

To honor that brave and trailblazing spirit, South African vocalist Melanie Scholtz and Kenyan pianist Aaron Rimbui explore the full range of Makeba’s music, developing unique and deeply personal spins on her repertoire, while also pairing her works with originals of their own in a performance that draw upon the greatest lessons Miriam Makeba offered to the world, and building upon them into a one-of-a-kind new performance.
