We Need Your Help!
City of Gold Arts helps South African musicians find work in the US by arranging tours, securing visas, and helping with transportation needs. It's been a wonderfully successful program thus far with touring and with recording (we have a record label now, too, called AfricArise!).
And in June, two huge South African Jazz events are taking place - at the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, and at Damrosch Park for Lincoln Center. These events cap off a series of successful tour dates by South African artists that began in January.
The challenge, and where we need your help:
While I've secured their work and their domestic travel, unfortunately we still need help getting four artists to the US. Their visas are secured and their gigs are confirmed, but we need help arranging four economy class flights to and from South Africa.
We had previously partnered with South African Tourism and with the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture - however, due to financial and political issues in South Africa, both groups have had to back out of their support. We find ourselves on short notice needing to secure four roundtrip international flights, totaling about $6,000.
Can you help?
If you are able to, City of Gold Arts is a not-for-profit, and tax-deductible donations can be made! You can click here for details on how donations can be processed. All donations go exclusively to this travel cost - no overhead or admin fees are taken out.
You can also help by spreading the word! If you know people who love music and would like to help support South African artists seeking to build their work in the United States, please let them know!
Want to hear some of their music?
I have built a playlist of the four artists in question. Please do check out their music - these are absolutely stunning musicians whose works deserve a global audience.
Thank you for the love and support and thank you for being a part of the music!
